Baddegama derived its name from a classical origin” Bath dun gama” which means gave meals to king Dutu Gemunu when held war.
Baddegama is a beautiful urban village situated at Galle District 15 km away from Galle town. In past main livehood was paddy cultivation. But now it changes to tea cultivation as well as rubber, coconut and minor export cultivation.
Ginganga flow among the village. Baddegama is situated Ginganga lower basin has floody history. Annually it was destroy paddy and highland crops.Gin River flood control project was completed in 1980.
Baddegama division area large is 112km2. It boundrise as follows
• Northn and North eastern – welivitiya divithura Divison
• Eastern – Nagoda Division
• Southern Eastern – Yakkalamulla Division
• South – Akmmemana Division
• West – Bope -Poddala Division
Before 1987 Baddegama divided to 24 Grama Nildhari divisions. In 1987 It increesed as 36. After that in 1989 Baddegama divided 70 grama nildhari divisions. some of Gn divisions are belongs to baddegama election division and others are Ambalangoda election division.
